Issue of SLSs making up services missed

Presently NJEA president Joyce Powell is having all Uniserv-Reps look into the complaint about local districts requiring SLSs to make up services missed when they were absent. Some districts are making the SLS make up services for colleagues. Some complaints were that local associations were not helping the SLS. This complaint was presented in April. NJEA is working on contractual language to help with this issue. There is a follow-up letter of clarification on missed sessions from the Office of Special Education Programs in Trenton. Click Here for a copy of this letter. We are waiting to hear from NJEA on their findings. In the meanwhile NJEA is encouraging you to report this to your local representative. If no one is listening, go to your local President. If you do not get results from your local association, call your area Uniserv-Rep. If you still find you are not getting any help, email us. Hopefully this problem will be resolved this coming year.
